New York
Winners of the 9th annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards were recognized in New York at a gala dinner.
Knitwear designer Greg Chait took top spot for a prize of $300,000. Runners up include footwear designer Tabitha Simmons and jewellery designer Jennifer Meyer, wife of actor Tobey Maguire, who each won prizes of $100,000.
The Fashion Fund in large part was the brain child of Vogue Editor Anna Wintour in response to 9/11 which left the American fashion industry reeling after the terrorist attacks. It currently has a $12 million endowment fund. Burberry CCO Christopher Bailey addressed the young designers with a message about the importance of working terribly hard in an industry that can be resoundingly ridiculous.
